Horská Kvilda – Basic Information
Topography
This specific part of the central Šumava is formed by so called Plains or Kvildy (formerly Gefilde). This low-relief peneplain was elevated in the geological era to the altitude of about 1000 to 1200 metres above see level. Local climate is severe and cold, with long winters and abundant precipitation. There are various types of peat bogs and wetlands giving origin to many streams. The Plains are covered with spruce forests with intermittent larger meadow enclaves.
In the most beautiful part of the Plains, at the altitude of about 1060 beneath Antýgl mountain (1253 m), the village of Horská Kvilda is extended. It is composed of about 30 scattered houses, with several other settlements attached thereto - Výhledy, Zlatá Studna, Horní Antýgl, Korýtko. Further settlements have already perished. The Hamerský stream runs through the village of Horská Kvilda.
