Großer Arber

The local mountain Großer Arber, lovingly known as the “King of the Bavarian Forest” and the region’s highest peak at 1,456 metres, is always worth a visit. It is an ideal destination for families and is popular with young and old all year round.

The Arber Bergbahn 6-person gondola lift makes the peak easily accessible and offers protection from the elements on the way up. As a result, buggies and wheelchairs can also be easily transported up the mountain in this panoramic lift.

If you’d prefer to scale the mountain on foot, there are numerous great paths leading up to the summit.

Up on top, there is a loop trail which allows visitors to explore the summit plateau with the Arberkapelle chapel, Richard-Wagner-Kopf rock formation and striking radar stations, as well as enjoy the stunning views.

In clear weather, the panorama even extends all the way to the Alps!

However, Großer Arber isn’t just a great day out in summer. In the winter months, the mountain transforms into one of Germany’s most state-of-the-art and snowiest ski areas, offering fun for all the family thanks to its array of lifts, sledding slope and children’s area.
