Natural monument: The lime tree at Hatzinger Hof

This lime tree is estimated to be more than 600 years old, 25 metres tall and with a trunk circumference of over 6 metres – making it likely the oldest and mightiest tree in the entire county.

The site forms a unique timeless ensemble together with the neighbouring residential structure – Hatzinger Hof – and adjacent large ash trees, which are also of incredible natural value.

The lime tree, which was already under protection from 1965 to 1970, was once again classified as a natural monument in 1972 after comprehensive maintenance work. After these maintenance measures and the demolition of small agricultural buildings flanking the tree, this ancient lime now once again has space to thrive and be enjoyed in all its glory by visitors.
